A film about constant movement, about continuation: in keeping with the clever ambiguity of its title, Reisender Krieger (Travelling Warrior/Krieger on the Road) is the tale of a mythical figure in an extremely real setting. A travelling salesman named Krieger drives around Switzerland on behalf of the cosmetics firm Blue Eye. Partly due to his job and partly out of personal interest, he encounters a wide range of different and sometimes very unconventional people. He also knows the loneliness of the Samurai warrior, however, and his journey is akin to a modern version of the Odyssey.

This masterpiece by Christian Schocher, a marginal (in the best sense of the word) filmmaker from the mountains, links the mundane to near-legendary fiction in a highly iridescent manner. It discovers a fascinating realm of “in-between-ness” where the difference between recording and telling almost disintegrates (with camera and sound testing their technical limits more than once) – and where the only way to get out is the way you got in: by continuing onwards.
