FAQ - Frequently asked questions

What is the documenta?
The documenta is one of the world´s best known and established exhibitions of contemporary art. It takes place every five years, in the North-Hesse town of Kassel. In the year 2002, it will happen for the eleventh time, and as usual, its concept will be the responsibility of one curator and in case of Documenta11 together with a team of co-curators. Details on the history of documenta and Documenta11 are available here and in the history-section.
When and where will the Documenta11 take place?
Under the artistic direction of Okwui Enwezor, Documenta11 extends in substantive, spatial and temporal terms further than any documenta exhibition before.Documenta11 consists of a constellation of five platforms realized on four continents over the span of eighteen months.

The first four platforms were devised as committed intellectual and discursive interventions in a highly interdisciplinary manner, to explore actively and critically the contemporary problematics of art, politics, and society. With the concept of the platforms, Documenta11 has succeeded in initiating a public discussion on the content and the process of exhibiting long before the beginning of the exhibition.

Platform5, the exhibition in Kassel, takes place from June 8 to September 15, 2002, at the following venues: Fridericianum, documenta-Halle, the Orangerie, the Kulturbahnhof, and the Binding-Brauerei.

Open daily form 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please refer to our
Program for further venues and events. You can find an Orientation Map and and a Platform5 Map in our Service area.
